Description

Revolutionary War Era Document JUNE 29,1775 Swansea MASSACHUSETTS Town Election. PLEASE NOTE MAJOR CONDITION ISSUES OF THIS VERY FRAGILE DOCUMENT IN PHOTOS.....(although still intact as one complete sheet).
A historical document from a representative named ..." Jn. TURNER" (resident of Plymouth)....of the ...GRAND AND GENERAL COURT OF THE COLONY OF THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY to the people of the town of ...."SWANZEY..." - telling them that they need to elect town representatives for the Colonial Government of Massachusetts.  On back is a further signed notation by ...SIMEON MASON- Constable of the town of " SWANZEY" that Simeon wrote on July 31, 1775 - assuring that he had indeed given legal due notice that the meeting for town elections needed to be held...I tried to take a photo to show at least part of the large watermark in the paper that has a lion standing up inside of a crowned circle. I find it interesting the dsting is done as ....Year of our Lord....but absolutely no mention of King George or any acknowledgement like..."His Majesty"... ***Keep in mind the Battle of Lexington/ Concord was April 19, 1775. .so it had only been one month since that major clash with British forces...
Document about 12 inches long.
