Very Rare LARGE 75mm WW I  BRITISH Trench Art Artillery Shell, Commemorating the 40th Division CHESHIRE REGT.
DESCRIPTION:
Original 75mm WWI Trench Art Artillery Shell. Full length and has not been shortened as often happens. HIGHLY & NICELY DECORATED WITH FLAGS, FLOWERS, & CRESTS. Hard to see due to the reflection in my photos across ribbon is "40th Div, Cheshire Regt". Also large "FW" at bottom side.  No powder in it, and the primer has been removed, so absolutely safe to sell and own.
Brass casing has really nice decorations, including nicely scalloped top edge at the top. Particularly well made and nicely done.
I have shown a scan of the bottom manf. marks as well. THIS IS A US SHELL CASING, FIRED & RECOVERED FROM THE BATTLEFIELDS IN FRANCE. Appears to be a German pickup shell, as was often used as an enemy battle souvenir, and is marked "Modeburg, 1916".
About 13" high overall, and made for a 3" diameter projectile. Excellent, untouched, original condition. Nice patina and aged appearance! Very nice trench art work AND A GREAT, RARE NAMED REGIMENT!!! One of the nicer WWI shells you will find. Very few trench art shells are found with a regiment on them!!
