Antique Chinese Gaobei Porcelain 15-Piece Tea Set;
Up for sale is the exquisite
Chinese porcelain tea set with 15 pieces made in Gaobei (
高陂
), Guangdong Province, dated late 19
th
, early 20
th
century.
The tea set serving 6 people features a teapot, 6 groups of cups and saucers, creamer and sugar bowl. All the pieces with jade green celadon color are designed to have waists, hand painted with bamboos, rock and flowers, and with an inscription in Chinese calligraphy including the “
大埔
高陂
”.
Except the cups, all the pieces are hallmarked in red at the bottom with “
廣東高陂
” in ancient seal script. The edges of all the pieces are also gold gilt decorated.

, is
known as the “White Jade City” and “Hometown of Ceramics”. It has a ceramic history over 700 years started in the late period of the Song dynasty (960–1279). Their enamel porcelain are renowned for being “white as jade, thin as paper, bright as a mirror, and sounded like a chime”.

Condition: Clean and generally good; one cup has a chip and the spout of the teapot is broken but glued back as shown in the photo 11.
