    Description

An American Colonial Era Manuscript Document from Kittery Maine, dated at York, for the Town of Kittery, May 13, 1793.  The document, signed by the Selectment of Kittery, naming John Fogg Surveyor of highways in the Town of Kittery for the "present year" and providing instructions as to what roads need to be improved.  The document is signed by Andrew Fernald as one of the selectment.  The Fernald family was prominent in early Maine, and one member would become Governor in the early 20th century.  One signature has been removed, possibly as some sort of cancellation.  The document has also been signed by Benjamin Parker who served as a Revolutionary War soldier, living until age 82 years, and dying at Kittery in 1837. Approximately 8 3/4" x 4 3/8" in size,  one fold repaired with archival tape.
